My last project at Hyper Island was for a very traditional Yoga studio in Stockholm called Yogayama, and it was a great challenge implementing digital into a yoga space.

I conducted extensive staff interviews as well as customer interviews, to understand the business culture and beliefs and ended up with a solution which was visualising data in a much more observational way than saying you’re doing progress or not, since one of our key insights is that Yoga is about looking inwards and at the journey instead of looking at how successful you are.

So, even if we were displaying data, it won’t indicate whether that visualisation is good or bad – as well as giving the user the function of reflecting and keeping track on how they are feeling through the “self reflection”. Based on that visualisation of how you are feeling, you would get recommendations of podcasts, tutorials and classes to partake in to balance yourself.

Brief

During our 5 week module called “Running a Digital Business” at Hyper Island, I got to work with this client and their upcoming art platform project called Afripedia. Their brief was to come up with a strategic plan as well as a user experience based design mockup of the solution for mobile use.

What is Afripedia

Afripedia is an inspiration platform for african art, curated by hand-picked artists, striving towards giving exposure to the diversity of the african culture and challenging african stereotypes.

My Tasks

I was involved in the process of building the strategic plan and setting a solid foundation for the platform, but my main task on this project was design.

I did some extensive user experience research and user testing through interviews and letting people try my design out in order for me to implement changes to the design so it was easy to use and that how the functions and content met the visitors needs priority wise.
